Having started Ballet classes at age of 5 and taken examinations with both the RAD and IDTA, I achieved my vocational examinations in Classical Ballet in 1983/4.

A change in personal circumstances and foot problems, reluctantly forced a change of career path. Eventually after an operation on both feet, was determined to help myself to regain the strength and mobility in my toes, feet and ankles by doing specific foot and ankle exercises that I’d learnt as a Dancer. I wanted to be able to do the same things with my feet as I once did. The effort and discomfort paid off.

Then, after experiencing a traumatic birth due to an epidural procedure that went horribly wrong, I turned to holistic therapies to speed my recovery on both a physical and emotional level. I found the holistc approach of the therapies the best help of all and so beneficial, that it was the turning point for me!

For over 16 years, I have worked with Complementary Therapies and gained qualifications in Body Massage, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Hot Stone Massage Therapy, Bowen Technique Therapy and also hold a Beauty Therapy Specialist Diploma. I later returned to my love of dance, assisted teaching at a local dance school and was fortunate to be tutored and encouraged by the late Elizabeth Hodgson, who was a Senior Examiner for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. In an attempt to rectify some postural imbalances and muscular weakness I had acquired over the years away from dancing, decided to learn Pilates and was amazed at the difference it made, which was the catalyst to train as a Pilates Instructor, qualifying to teach Pilates with the highly respected and world renowned – Body Arts & Science International. BASI (USA) in 2007.

Continued Professional Development is imporant to me continue to further skills and knowledge.

I actively seek opportunities to attend further Anatomy lectures, have worked as an Assistant to the Physiotherapy team on an Orthopaedic Trauma Ward and have attended further Pilates training with the legendary Alan Herdman, workshops with Master Pilates Teacher Rael Isocowitz and Dance specific Pilates training with Karen Clippinger plus many additional lectures and dance related teacher training courses operated by the ISTD or BBO.

In particlular I feel passionately about proper advice to be provided for the care of the feet and ankles, so specialising in pointe shoe fitting and correct technique from the earliest stage, is a passion for me. The safe and effective dance practice and promotion of health and well-being for Dancers is an important subject which is strongly promoted by organisations such as Dance UK and IADMS, and through my own personal experiences, is a subject very close to my heart.
